Lately I have been struggling with what I am passionate about and channeling that into my work. Over the course of the past few weeks, whenever something that inspires me pops into my head I write it down, which has left me with a long and eclectic list. One thing that has been of interest to me for quite some time now is space. It is a beautiful mystery and I often spend my time exploring the National Geographic space news. Upon exercising my creative juices I started playing with layering different images I found online. And of course with my love of type, I had to include some form of text. My number one response to any time someone asks me "how's it going?" or "how are you doing?" is "oh you know, just livin' the dream". It often has a sarcastic connotation as I often feel lost with no direction, however I feel that this is an accurate depiction of my way of going about life. I am pretty lost, but that's the fun of it. I may not have much direction as to where I want to be, but the fun part is figuring out that direction and exploring my options. I've lost touch with this part of me recently and it feels good to be discovering it again.
Thus the result
voila
Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try
Aside from the few short videos I've created in iMovie and Final Cut Pro, I have barely any experience with, and knowledge of, video editing software. Since I haven't done much work with video, my practice is very limited and the few projects I have done, I wasn't sure exactly why I was doing what I was doing, all I knew was that I had to do it. One of the most confusing parts of these video editing softwares is, to me, the interface. The first question I always ask myself when I use a new program is "Oh my goodness what am I looking at??!" As dull as tutorials can be, no offense to any of you tutorial lovers, but let's face it–it's not everyone's first choice to sit down and watch video after video displaying how to use these programs. But, they are a necessary evil when it comes to learning these programs, or really any new program for that matter. After watching the first set of tutorials, the first thing I did after skimming my notes was draw a diagram of the interface...which is something I've never done. Then again, maybe that's why I never know what I'm doing! Here is my ever so detailed diagram (that I will most certainly be holding onto):
These tutorials have showed me how to create and edit documents in these programs, as well as understanding why and how they work. Tutorials can give you the knowledge and the programs can give you the tools, but it's all up to me to practice and learn how to use these programs efficiently!
Welcome, friends!
As I sit here writing this post, I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that it's now my senior year and in 9 short months I'll be donning the blue and yellow cap and gown...SCARY! But as scary and intimidating as this year is, I couldn't be more excited. I am now equipped with my senior studio workspace and flashy new key, and I'm ready to get down to business.
My electives this semester include:
My studio class for the semester is VC Practicum where we will be working on any personal projects, portfolio work, and consumables. We will also have visiting artists throughout the course to talk and share their experiences with us.
So stay tuned for my failures, my success, my frantic all nighters, and my 'not-as-frequent-as-I-would-like' epiphanies.
Live long and prosper, friends
